Lesson #3 Leadership Characteristics and Qualities

"The DNA of a Leader"

-SESSION 1-

In this session you will understand the importance of your inner character.

​

Definition of Character:  Moral or ethical quality of an individual (frame of mind, habit, morale, nature, personality, reputation, spirit and trait).

 

  • Character is your identity.

  • Character shows what you value.

  • Character reveals itself in your words, actions and choices.

  • Character will determine who are your friends and what type of relationships you have.

  • Character will expose/reveal what your attitude or behavior is towards power, money and the opposite sex.

 

Throughout history, numerous individuals have portrayed genuine character through their life and thorough their actions. And one of those historical leaders said this:

 

“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”            -Martin Luther King, Jr.

-SESSION 2-

In this session you will be introduced to the top 30 characteristics and qualities of a great leader.

​

Below are just the first seven leadership characteristics and qualities of a great leader:

  1. A Leader...Has Great Character

  2. A Leader...Is Full of Charisma

  3. A Leader...Is Very Committed

  4. A Leader...Is a Great Communicator

  5. A Leader...Is A Person of Competence (Ability)

  6. A Leader...Has Courage

  7. A Leader...Has an Awesome Creative Mind and Ability

 

Understanding the importance of having certain leadership traits, will help you as a leader or as an individual to have greater influence with others. And these specifics leadership characteristics and qualities will challenge you as a child of God to excel further in your purpose and calling.

-SESSION 3-

In this session you will continue to dive further by learning additional characteristics and qualities of a great leader.

​

Below are seven more leadership characteristics and qualities of a great leader:

     8. A Leader...Is Able to Discern Well

     9. A Leader...Wears the Fear of the Lord Like a Necklace

   10. A Leader...Has Great Focus

   11. A Leader...Is Very Generous

   12. A Leader...Is Honest

   13. A Leader...Is A Person with an Initiative Attitude

   14. A Leader...Is A Person of Integrity

 

As always, we can continually grasp golden nuggets of wisdom from historical leaders like George Washington:

-SESSION 4-

In this session you will learn why listening well; having patience; being full of passion; and having a positive attitude is so important for every leader. And we are still continuing to go further by learning those additional characteristics and qualities of a great leader.

Below are four more powerful leadership characteristics and qualities of a great leader:

    15. A Leader...Is Able to Listen Well

    16. A Leader...Has more Patience than any Hospital

    17. A Leader...Is A Person Full of Passion

    18. A Leader...Has a Positive Attitude

 

Growing and learning is a never ending process and often times we want to expedite this process, but Joyce Meyer shares some great insight about patience:

"Patience is not simply the ability to wait - it's how we behave while we're waiting."   -Joyce Meyer

-SESSION 5-

In this session you will obtain a deeper understanding of true and genuine leadership, which relate to an individuals characteristics and qualities.

Below are the final twelve leadership characteristics and qualities of a great leader:

    19. A Leader...Is A Great Problem Solver

    20. A Leader...Is Able to Build Relationships

    21. A Leader...Is A Person of Responsibility

    22. A Leader...Is A Risk Taker

    23. A Leader...Creates An Atmosphere of Security

    24. A Leader...Is Very Self-Disciplined

    25. A Leader...Has A Servants Heart

    26. A Leader...Is Teachable

    27. A Leader...Follows the Truth

    28. A Leader...Has Vision

    29. A Leader...Is Full of Godly Wisdom

    30. A Leader...Loves to Worship

 

With so many great characteristics and qualities of a leader, Coach John Wooden sums up character this way:

"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."  -Coach John Wooden

-SESSION 6-

In this session you will go on a unique path through some of the well know Hollywood movie titles and how they reflect in comparison to leadership.

​

Below is just a small outline of some of these movie title leaders:

  • Superman Man of Steel Leader

  • Mission Impossible Leader

  • Star Wars Leader

  • Kindergarten Cop Leader

  • The Terminator Leader

 

One of the main focuses of this lesson is to steer your thought process in different way in order to allow you to grasp certain unique leadership traits and characteristics, by utilizing specific movies.

-SESSION 7-

In this session you will go on a humorous path where leadership is compared to certain animals and their traits.

​

Below is just a small outline of some of these animal type of leaders:

  • The Lion Leader

  • The House Cat Leader

  • The Snake Leader

  • The Skink Leader

  • The Parrot leader

 

As leaders, we need to be on a continual growth process and be willing to learn from some of the greatest patriarchs of faith. And one of these patriarchs of faith said this about character:

“The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.”
